Refuge has a year-round manager
The Refugio de Cap de Llauset (Cap de Llauset Mountain Hut) is located at an altitude of 2,425 m, at the easternmost point of the Aragonese Pyrenees. It is the newest and most modern of the of the Aragonese Mountaineering Federation’s mountain huts incorporated into the Aragonese network. Cap de Llauset was inaugurated in October 2018 thanks to funding from the Provincial Council of Huesca, Montanuy Village Council and the Aragonese Mountaineering Federation. The mountain hut is located in the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park and along the mid-section of the GR 11 Trans Pyrenees hiking trail, providing shelter, service and safety to the many mountaineers who travel this route. This mountain hut ensures there is a safe place and a reference point in the mountains as well as a base point for rescue groups Moreover, it provides a waste collection point that concentrates and purifies waste, while also serving as a meteorological data collection point. Such facilities are particularly important in a mountain range which has such a dearth of facilities. The opening of this mountain hut has fill in a serious gap by offering services along one of the most renowned Pyrenean routes, since prior to its inauguration no such services were available. Cap de Llauset is located at the foot of a series of three-thousander peaks along the entire eastern end of the Maladetas massif. Together with the La Renclusa Mountain Hut, this mountain hut allows mountaineers to plan a magnificent high-mountain circular route to the Aneto peak and to the Las Maladetas massif. Moreover, it is also an important stop-off point along a range of different mountain routes around the many lakes dotted around the region.
