Refuge has a manager for part of the year
On the outer area of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park (PNAESM), you can find the lake called Estanh Major de Colomèrs. This building was built in 2008 and is owned by the General Council of Aran. It stands at a crossroads between the GR 11 and the GR 11.18 junction of the GR 11.18 leading to Restanca via Pòrt de Caldes. It also forms part of the Carros de Foc circular hiking route. The Colomèrs cirque is the most important lacustrine ecosystem in the Pyrenees and a popular spot for families in summer. It is 40 minutes from the car park (access restricted to taxis) and on the route of the 7 lakes promoted by The Aran Valley Tourism Board. It is the starting point for many hikes to the peaks surrounding Colomèrs cirque (Tuc de Ratera, Gran Tuc de Colomèrs, Creu de Colomèrs,...) and there are many climbs in the vicinity of the refuge.
