At Plan d'Aste (1470 m), the last point where private vehicles are allowed, there is a car park where the ascent to Larribet refuge (2072 m) begins. The Parc National des Pyrénées tourist information office is also located here and there is a bridge leading over to the right bank of Gave d'Arrens. Follow the obvious path that is on that side and follow it, before shortly after zigzagging upwards to gain height in the forest. After the first steep slope the path heads south, leaving the trees behind, and approaches Lac de Suyen (1536 m). Walk around the lake and a little beyond the end there is fork where we talk the right hand path, near to the river. There is a pretty waterfall on the other side of the river, and little further on we reach Cabane de Doumblas (1563 m), located next to a small bridge crossing the ravine (crossing with routes 14 and 15). A path merges with the route here from the left. Ignore the path and bear right, where the climb steepens to climb the rocky slope located between the cabin and the waterfall.
A small wooded area precedes a grassy plain where the valley opens up a little. After crossing to the left side of the ravine, the climb starts again, following the course of Ruisseau de Larribet and gaining height. A new level areas leads to another bridge (1805 m) where we cross the river again. We then traverse a boulder field before the path zigzags sharply and moves away from the river to access a small cirque where the Larribet refuge (2072 m) is located on a rocky hill.
