The routes starts off at Panticosa Spa, next to Casa de Piedra refuge (1636 m) located at the north end of the spa (crossing routes 02, 22 and 24).
Follow some wooden signs that indicate the start of the route behind the refuge. These signs are obvious along the entire route and are the GR 11 long distance footpath markings. Right from the start the path leads constantly upwards following the right bank of the Caldarés river. The route takes us higher going past several waterfalls until we reach Mirador de la Reina (1740 m), from where there are bird's-eye views of the spa. We then return to the path and zigzag through the forest until we reach O Bozuelo plain (1850 m), an idyllic meadow affording a change before tackling the remaining part of the route. The looping path soon reappears, and the we leave the last trees behind us as the path snakes upwards between the rocks up the Cuesta del Fraile, the last stage before reaching Ibon Bajo de Bachimaña (2180 m). There is a footbridge to the side of the dam enabling us to cross over to the left bank on a high next to the lake where the Ibones de Bachimaña refuge is located (2200 m).
